Thai Paradevatha Theyyam

Thai Paradevatha is the chief idol of Kolathunadu, which ruled from Chandragiri Puzha to Korapuzha, and the dynasty. Disobeying the order of Sri Mahadeva, Sati Devi  went to Daksha Yaga in Rajdhani.  Sati Devi, humiliated by Daksha, committed suicide by jumping into the fire.  Knowing this, Mahadeva got angry and threw thandavam and at the end of the thandavam, Lord Shiva cut off his braid and threw it on the ground. Bhadrakali and Veerabhadra were born from that braid. On the orders of Sri Mahadeva, Bhadrakali and the Bhoothganas went to Daksha’s place of sacrifice and destroyed the entire place.

Dakshan’s head was cut off and the yagashala  was set on fire.  Sri Maha Deva gave the daughter a place to live north of Kailasa Parvata.  Later, during the battle of Devasura, the goddess reincarnated, cut off Darika’s head, who had the power of seven elephants and drank his blood.  Having completed her  reincarnation goal, Mahadev sent the goddess to earth to take care of the rest of the people.  Bhadrakali, the main worship goddess of Kolathunadu is worshiped at Kolathiri Madaikavu (Thiruvarkat Kavu).

The royal family worshiped the goddess in the names of Thiruvarkat Bhagavathy and Madaikavi Taiparadevata and performed the theyyam of Taiparadevata.
