Paadarkulangara Veeran

Paadarkulangara Veeran deva is one of the retinues of puthiya Bhagavati.

While walking along the Patarkulangara River, a Brahmin youth saw the puthiya bhagavathi and her companions bathing in the river and was amused by their bath.

Sensing that the Brahmin youth was looking at them, Devi asked if he could join them and called him to their side.

The goddess asked the young man, who went there not knowing that it was the puthiya Bhagavati who was calling him, to take a dip in the water.  As soon as he took the dip and raised his head, the bhagavathi chopped his head.

The Brahmin who died at the hands of the goddess hence became a demigod and was later given a position in all the new Bhagavati temples, and worshipped as the Paadarkulangara Veeran Theyyam.
