Ilamkarumakan and Puthrvaadi

Ilamkarumakan and Puthrvaadi

Both deities are considered as warrior deities, and illustrative forms of the vanadevatha (the goddess of forest).

Ilamkarumakan is Vaishnava murthy whereas Puthrvaadi is Shaivamurthy.

According to legends , the Illamkarumakan theyyam story is based on the legend of a courageous man who defends the lives of people from enemies.

An intersting fact about these theyya kolams is that they are performed as the concept of  ‘Baali – Sugriva’ at Andalur Kaav in Kannur district.
