Dharmadam Island

Dharmadam Island, also known as Dharmadam Thuruth, is a small island (currently owned by Kerala govt.),  situated off the coast of Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located near Thalassery in Kannur district, Kerala, India.

The island lies at the confluence of the Anjarakandy River and the Arabian Sea. It is popular for its lush greenery, medicinal herbs, and serene environment. Covered with coconut palms and dense flora, the island offers a scenic view with a peaceful atmosphere.

The Dharmadam town is only about 4 km from Thalassery. The island is very close to the mainland. It lies near popular tourist destinations like Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach and Thalassery Fort. Entry to the island is only allowed with prior permission. However, It is visible from the mainland, and its beauty is best enjoyed from a distance. 

Dharmadam Island is popular for its historical relevance. Local stories suggest that in ancient times, the island was a favorite getaway for the rulers in the area. Today, due to its ecological importance, this island has become a tourist spot that is required to be protected and preserved.
